Betty White first became known to me when she was appearing as a regular on Password with her husband Allen London. She showed as much spunk and energy on Password as she has during her entire career as a comedic actress on television and the big screen.  And she has shown just as much energy and enthusiam as a spokesperson for the spaying and neutering of pets.  My favorite part of on the Golden Girls was Rose played by Betty White.

Betty White and Morris Animal Foundation

Betty White just turned 90 years old and has gained a lot of attention for that accomplishment.  But on her birthday, she did not ask for lavish gifts.  Ms. White asked for donations to the Morris Animal Foundation where she has been a trustee since 1971.

Morris Animal Foundation helps animals enjoy longer, healthier lives by advancing animal health and welfare worldwide.

Ms. White could spend her time and rightfully so in retirement especially when it comes to causes like pet spaying and neutering.  But instead she focuses even  stronger for this cause.

In June of 2010 at the age of 89 Betty White founded the Bucks for Balls spay and neuter campaign through Actors and Others for Animals where she is on the Board of Directors. This organization strives to end the overpopulation of the pet population by subsidizing spaying and neutering programs in the greater Los Angeles area.

Betty White’s message is to let everyone know that she is blessed.  But she reminds us that there are many less fortunate animals that are destroyed daily because there are not enough homes for them. She asks all her loyal fans and new friends to donate just one dollar to help eliminate pet overpopulation and the destroying of innocent animals.

Betty White Supports Spaying and Neutering

Betty WhiteWithe Betty White’s involvement  with the spay and neuter program in Los Angeles, it is important for all of us to remember that there are organizations in our local areas that do a great job of promoting spay and neutering programs for animals and organizations that locally provide for low cost spaying and neutering of animals.  Bravo for those unsung heroes who work so hard to provide the education needed for pet owners regarding spaying and neutering and also provide pet adoption assistance for the thousands of homeless animals finding themselves in shelters every day.

So while Ms. White is probably one of the best known and effective pet advocates, let us not forget those angels who open their homes everyday to rescued animals.  Anyone with a pet knows the tremendous expense involved with caring for a pet.  A lot of these volunteer pet caregivers end up paying for much of the animal care out of their own pockets.  Even the public shelters fight for every penny they get to care for the homeless animals in their facilities.  They may not have a spokesperson like Betty White, but their needs are just as real.

My newest three kittens were obtained from a home shelter. Betty White would support this action. My husband and I had been interested in getting a new cat for some time.  My husband met Rose of the home shelter at a local pet store that supports pet adoption.   He saw pictures of the kittens that Rose had available.  He told me about them and I went with him to see the pictures.  Well the rest is history.  We completed the required application and cam home with not one, but three new kittens from the same litter.  I know that Rose took money from her own pocket to care for my three darlings before we adopted them.  I so much appreciate the care she gave them.

So when your local animal shelter needs some financial or volunteer help please remember all the wonderful work that they do and donate what you can.  If you have extra bedding, pet food or money that can be donated to some of the public or private shelters, give.  You can do a Google search or check with your local veterinarian for reputable local public and private shelters.

All homeless pets waiting for pet adoption will appreciate your donations.

In the meantime remember to have your pets spayed and neutered to help control the animal population.
